JOHN PAINTSIL'S HAPPY DAY IN SUN CITY

The last two FIFA World Cups have seen Fulham and Black Stars defender John Paintsil celebrate his birthday in Ghana's World Cup camp.

Four years ago in Wurzburg, Germany, JP celbrated his 25th birthday during Ghana's maiden appearance at the World Cup.

Four years later in Sun City, Rustenburg, JP has had another celebration in another World Cup camp.

Hardly would a man forget his birthday and Paintsil didn't on wednesday june 15, 2010, but unknown to Paintsil was how exciting his day was going to be, considering the fact that he is in serious business for mother Ghana.

Just when he thought he was done with his birthday breakfast, he was stunned with a huge birthday cake presented to him by staff of the World famous Sun City hotel. Not only that, Sun City also offered JP a huge Vuvuzela, beer jug, hotel paraphenalia and a birthday card.

The Ghanaian players had reserved the best presentation for the last. The first gift Paintsil received from his colleagues was a splash of a portion of his own cake on his face, which was followed by the traditional birthday 'ponding'.

It was an exciting scene which Paintsil enjoyed.

"Not many people celebrate their birthdays in this special way," said the birthday boy.
"It was the same four years ago in Germany and I'm happy to have it here too."
"The players are so wonderful and they have amazed me. I wish though I could have avoided the food fight," joked the Black Star.

"I am also grateful to the hotel for their amazing present."

The newly-turned 29-year-old is hoping the birthday will urge him on in Ghana's remaining matches, especially Saturday's fixture with the Socceroos of Australia.
"I hope to carry this special day into the next game on Saturday and I hope it shall be well.”

Four years ago, his birthday inspired him and the Black Stars to a famous victory over Czech Republic. On saturday it will be Australia's turn to be at the receiving end of the passion and enthusiasm that comes with JP's birthday.
